Brainstorming for 2010!
by Erin | February 3rd, 2010 |

The IAF  rocked 2009 with interstitial salons, publications, auction, new website & new friends! Everyone at the IAF Executive Board & Working Group is jazzed and energized, and trying to figure out where to go from here. So we’ve cobbled together a Wish List for 2010. We know we can’t do it all in 12 months, but this seems like a good place to start . . . .

IAF Wish List for 2010:

  • Post more regular news, reviews, events, and promotion of interstitial artists and their work.
  • Establish a forum for interstitial artists to exchange ideas, collaborate, network, and brainstorm.
  • Create an online art gallery.
  • Feature guest bloggers on a regular basis.
  • Organize an interstitial art symposium.
  • Begin work on Interfictions 3.
  • Generate a wider engagement with the interstitial art community through co-sponsored events with other artists & organizations.
  • Hold more salons in towns across the U.S. & in Europe (Please visit our new How to Host an IAF Salon page!)

What would you like to see the IAF doing or promoting in 2010? What else can we do to make more of an impact, and to build a greater interstitial art community?

And how do you suggest we do that? Are you willing to volunteer some time or skills?

What are we missing, here?

Please add your ideas to our Wish List for 2010 in the Comments section. We promise to read, and to respond!

  1. Elissa Carey Says:

I don’t know what the market is like for books of art, but: how about putting together a beautiful art book interstitial visual art, similar to the idea of the yearly Interfictions anthology?

  2. Ray Vukcevich Says:

How about every once in a while have a question or issue or prompt or whatever (of the month or some other period) and then let salons around the world talk it over and come up with solutions, items, examples? Then compile, exchange, merge, etc these.

  3. Erin Says:

Along the lines of Elissa’s suggestion, what about an audio CD of interstitial music?

  4. Joshua Gage Says:

A few ideas, one based slightly off of Ray Vukcevich’s idea:

-I’d like to see more interstitial poetry, or possibly an interstitial poetry anthology.

-To that end, and to further interstitial art in general, workshops along with salons would be interesting, either at Cons or Online. I think it would be interesting to learn how other people interstice.

-To further these workshops, various monthly/quarterly/yearly assignments or prompts could be offered.

An interstitial glossary. Is there an interstitial vocabulary or not? What would it contain?

A CD-anthology that mixes poetry, music, art and illustration, etc.

Some discussion of practical issues–in a world so devoted to kinds and sub-varieties, how does one market works that don’t fit? There are some very rare people in the arts who have a kind of genius in this realm of promoting and spreading the word. Why not talk to them?

  6. Geoffrey Says:

These are all great ideas, everybody, and we’re adding them to our brainstorming list! Some of these are things we’re already actively discussing - for example, the idea of Workshops is something we’ve been bandying about for a while now. Keep ‘em coming!
